Singer-songwriter and producer Chen Asraf, the creative force behind Soul Kaktus, is set to release his latest single ‘The Sun In My Sky’, taken from his upcoming self-titled EP. Blending influences from Soul, R&B, Classic Rock, and Bossa Nova, Soul Kaktus presents a rich, heartfelt narrative throughout his music. ‘The Sun in My Sky,’ is a poignant tribute to love and resilience. Written during a challenging time when Asraf’s girlfriend moved to the UK while he remained in Tel Aviv, the song captures the struggles and strength required to maintain a long-distance relationship. It was produced by Asraf and recorded with his live band members, showcasing their collaborative synergy and musical chemistry.
Speaking on the track Soul Kaktus states « ‘The Sun in My Sky’ is about reminding the person I love that she is the light of my life. Any self-doubts or crises between us are nothing as long as she remembers who she is and how strong our love is. »
Chen Asraf has been releasing music under the moniker Soul Kaktus since 2021 following a breakup with his girlfriend and writing partner at the time. Chen took on the name Soul Kaktus as a cathartic outlet to channel what was an emotional and tumultuous period of his life, speaking on it further Asraf states “After the breakup I felt lost. Rebranding myself as Soul Kaktus and redefining my musical identity as an individual were significant aspects of my healing process.” With Asraf eventually reconciling with his girlfriend, his self-titled EP acts as a time capsule, chronicling the rollercoaster of emotions he felt during that time.
Throughout the EP Soul Kaktus delves into the soaring highs and crushing lows of love, exploring a deeply personal voyage of self-acceptance within and beyond the confines of a relationship. Each track is a testament to Asraf’s ability to translate complex emotions into relatable and moving music.
